Kirsten Ley

Kirsten Ley is a Canadian fashion designer, born and raised in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Ley is first-generation Canadian, with Danish and American ancestry. She’s lived in Los Angeles, and has travelled to over 35 countries around the world. However, regardless of her extensive travels, Vancouver remains her beloved home.

In the past, Kirsten has fearlessly ventured into several creative endeavours. Growing up, she received professional singing lessons, resulting in her being a trained opera singer; she’s an accomplished pianist, songwriter, and musician; she has also modelled, danced and professionally acted, including in several feature films. However, in spite of nascent successes, the lifestyle of these industries failed to appeal to her. It wasn't until a couple years ago that Ley discovered her passion for fashion design as her next endeavour.

In 2016, Ley enrolled in Blanche MacDonald Centre [Fashion Design] program. Even before entering the course, Ley had already mapped out her collection that would be showcased at the end of her program. Ley exceeded the requirements of the program, and was immediately recognized by her teachers and peers as an outstanding designer and student. Her final in-course design (“SAMOTHRACE”, a hand-moulded oxblood-red leather bodice,) was selected to headline the poster for that year’s fashion show, and her collection was selected to close the event, and she was awarded top honors from Blanche; the 2016 Overall Achievement award.

That was the impetus behind the launch of the “Kirsten Ley” brand.

Since graduating, Ley was hired by Blanche MacDonald as a design instructor; teaching the assigned curriculums, and workshopping her signature techniques and processes. Ley also taught yoga weekly, one of her favorite relaxation techniques.

Ley has now shown twice at Vancouver Fashion Week -- both her “Unbearable Lightness of Being” and “FANTÔME” collections -- and both shows have brought her recognition and support.
