Even a middle-aged person that was born and grew up here may not mention the word "fashion" while introducing Harbin to others.

In spite of Harbin's reputation as “Oriental Paris” and “Oriental Moscow”, people tend to think that all the praises are dedicated to Harbin's architecture characterized by various styles and splendid colors.
大概只有到了耄耋之年的老人，才会靠在竹椅上晒着太阳，细细熨平年轮下的时光褶皱，津津有味地向人们讲述起那个鲜为人知的、他们父辈口中的的哈尔滨——那个充满时尚风韵的哈尔滨。

哈尔滨距今才仅有百余年历史，但这座城市的个性并不与她脸上的风霜多少成正向关联。随着1896年中东铁路的修建，大批由于战争原因流亡的洋人涌入这座城市。
Harbin has a history of a mere 100 years, but the personality of this city is not positively related to the ups and downs it has gone through. With the construction of the Chinese Eastern Railway in 1896, a large number of foreigners exiled due to the war flooded into Harbin.
其中不乏被苏维埃政权驱逐的白俄贵族，他们手里有钱，注重物质，那一时期，哈尔滨的服装消费水准是全国超前的；他们还带来了自己的裁缝师，那一时期，哈尔滨成为中国服装潮流的引导者之一。
Among them were some Belarusian nobles expelled by the Soviet Regime who had money and paid attention to material life and during that period, Harbin's clothing consumption level took the lead in China; they had also brought their own tailors with them and made Harbin one of the fashion trend leaders in that period.
到了20世纪30年代，随着日本人涌入哈尔滨，服装界的新鲜血液也活力登场。俄派服饰、日派便服，估衣布活百花齐放，不仅见证着这座城市的包容性，也讲述着纷繁复杂的时尚故事。
In the 1930s, as Japanese people flooded into Harbin, fresh blood was injected into the garment industry, contributing to the flourishing business of Russian-style clothes, Japanese-style kimonos and secondhand clothes, not only witnessing the inclusiveness of the city, but also telling complicated fashion stories.
五十年代风靡全国的时尚苏联女士装“布拉吉”也是从东北流行开的。一时间，不仅仅是哈尔滨，在北京、上海的街头随处可见身着布拉吉的女性。
In the 1950s, the Soviet Union women's fashion dress "Blazy", which was popular nationwide, began to take off in Northeast China. For a while, women in Blazy could be found everywhere in the streets of Harbin, Beijing and Shanghai.
等到改革开放使哈尔滨真正向世界敞开大门，哈尔滨对于时尚的追求也终于朝着国际化大步迈进。

During this period, Boeing planes flying overhead in the sky, Toyota cars running on the ground, people were wearing Pierre Cardin, Nike, Versace...Linen factories and wool textile factories once presented a "Prosperous" scene nationwide.

Since it was founded in 2011, Harbin Fashion Week has grown from a baby at the babbling stage to a child with hair twisted in a knot, gradually washing away the implicit introverted personality and even shyness at the very beginning and becoming decent and graceful today. History conceiving birth, the 2011 Harbin Fashion Week, themed with "Discovery. Presentation", made its debut on the world stage. New design, new situation, new challenges and everything involved in this first time were at the exploration stage, but Harbin Fashion Week achieved a satisfactory result. Harbin finally once again stood at the forefront of fashion through the budding Harbin Fashion Week, eager to try to continue creating new fashion legends.

Dressed in art costumes, the 2016 Harbin Fashion Week was stunningly unveiled. The incorporation of Harley-Davidson Motor Show, Vintage Car Exhibition and intangible cultural heritage contributed to the combination of art spaces and fashion works. From following, to exploration and then to innovation, Harbin Fashion Week finally stood at the forefront of fashion. As VOGUE remarked, "It is undeniable that Harbin International Fashion Week has gradually become a top event in the fashion industry and it is a fastest fashion week developing fastest in China."
